100 Kids and Teens Who Care Houston and Beyond met at Skip’s Farm and voted Charlie’s Helping Hands Foundation as the third charity of choice for 2017. The children donated $1077 to Charlie Diggs, the founder of CHHF, who thanked the kids, promising “…to put the donation to good use, and to pay it forward!”
The idea for 100 Kids and Teens Who Care Houston and Beyond was Canadian transplant, Jodi Johnston’s. “Nora Gibbs, Lindsay Kincy, and Kellie Carney stepped up immediately, when I asked for help.” The organization’s objective is to inspire the next generation of philanthropists by providing a forum to help and contribute to local charities. Each child is encouraged to raise their donation, a minimum of $10, through activities such as babysitting, car washing, lemonade stands, even dog walking. Their cumulative fundraising efforts will then be donated to a worthy community charity.
100 Kids and Teens Who Care meets three times annually. “We currently have around 60 members, and would like to get the active membership up to 100,” explains Jodi. Children from K – Grade 12 are eligible to join; children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent. The next meeting of 100 Kids will be held in late February, with location to be determined.

Christian Deschamps, a 7th grader at Spillane Middle School, and soon to be member of 100 Kids and Teens Who Care, collected almost 1,500 toys for Christmas. The recipients of his generous gifts? The patients at Texas Children’s Hospital. “Christian’s Christmas Crusade” began when he was just 7, and became a triathlete. When a neighbor was diagnosed with cancer, Christian decided to dedicate the race to her, and used it as a vehicle to raise money for cancer research. Christian’s mom, Kelli, is noticeably proud of her young son for taking the initiative and “…making a difference in the world.” 100 Kids joined Christian’s school, Christmas parties, and the community in donating toys for the Texas Children’s Hospital children.
