Thirty years ago, Sheila Galloway and her late father discussed her desire to open a restaurant. After viewing the House Hahl property purchased by her silent partner, Galloway was taken by the beautiful fruit trees, the barn and the house; it reminded her of her family’s farm growing up. “Skip’s best quality is that it was made by family, with family in mind,” explains B’Lana Hill, Event Coordinator/Manager, and the youngest of Galloway’s five children. “Kids can play outside or in an old school style arcade, parents can relax with a drink, and no one has to worry or stress. Skip’s is a place to wind down and have a good time, and I think that’s the best part.”
As for the menu, crowd favorites are the half-pound cheeseburger and their freshly-made pulled pork sandwich. “Mom personally makes the pulled pork the same way she makes it at home; it’s wonderful!” asserts B’Lana. Skip’s appetizers include: Texas Toothpicks, Fried Pickles, Cheese Curds, Cowboy Bites, Cheese Sticks, Fried Jalapenos, and Pork Rinds. Along with the Cheeseburgers, Bacon Cheeseburgers, and Pulled Pork, customers can also order a tasty BLT, Veggie Burger, or Sriracha Burger. The kids can happily chomp down on burgers, grilled cheese, mac and cheese, and chicken tenders, before racing back to the playground. The bar menu boasts of 51 types of beer, wine, and frozen drinks.
The atmosphere at Skip’s Farm is conducive to family gatherings, parties, and kids’ functions. Firepits and electric tower heaters encourage customers to enjoy the outdoor seating, and if the night is right, there may be a band providing entertainment. The house seats 96; the ice-house, including stage area, seats about 100, and outside dining seats 350.
Hill is confident for the restaurant’s future. “Skip’s improves week by week; we’re constantly getting new toys for the playground, improving the lighting, and adding to the wonderful, eclectic decor that gives Skip’s character. Long-term, we have plans to turn the barn into a spacious banquet hall with its own bar. We also want to expand the ice-house to include an outside bar top and new restroom facilities.”
What Cypress
is saying
Metta Marie Archilla: “Skip’s Farm is up and coming. They do live music right. They are also boss in hot fried pork rinds and crawfish when in season. Wanna play pool? Yup, they have that too. Kids gone wild, this is the place. Sit back, have a brew and enjoy it, too.”
Carley Doerflinger Moreau: “We like it. They’ve come a long way from a couple years ago. We enjoy their burgers. Nice, laid back.”
Karolyne Allwin: “We loved it. The environment was what sold us. The kids can play; adults can too! lol. We ordered almost everything on the menu! The owner even went out of the way to make a huge salad for one of our guests and didn’t charge anything at all, even though salads are no longer on the menu.”
Diane O’Donnell: “We like it. They provide good customer service with quick eats in a very relaxed environment. The fries are really good. They have a wonderful outdoor fenced-in play area for kids with picnic tables nearby for the parents.”
Lindsay Worsham Kincy: “We enjoy having our Kids and Teens Who Care in Cy-Fair events at Skip’s as it’s a great family friendly restaurant and perfect location for large groups events! We love supporting a local family owned restaurant!”
