Towne Lake residents, Randi and David Koopmans did not start out in the typical way of most romances.
The fact that Randi is considered the standard height for a supermodel, 5’9” and taller, is directly
responsible for the two connecting. “We met online via Match.com. I was looking for a tall man; I’m
5’10,” and did a search for a taller man. David is 6’6,” so I messaged him, based on the fact (that)he was
super tall. We met at Escalantes, and we were married nine months later, at Champions Golf Club!”
shares Randi.
David is a Chief Information Officer for a private logistics company, and previously worked in the airline
industry for 20+ years. “We last lived in the New York City area, where David worked for JetBlue as a
Director of Technology,” comments Randi.
Randi and David have lived in Towne Lake since 2014. “We love this community so much; we are
currently building a second, larger home in Towne Lake,” explains Randi. “Our house is staged and it is a
challenge keeping it clean every day! Hopefully, it will sell soon, and we can move into our new home
before the Christmas holidays!”
The Koopermans children are 17 months apart. Kyle, age 7, is in the first grade at Rennell Elementary
School, and says, “I love math and lunch time! Whenever my friend Colin gets home from school, I like
to play catch with him. I play coach pitch,” adds Kyle proudly. Kyle plays little league baseball, and
spends three weeks of the summer at Camp Olympia, in Trinity Texas, as his mother did as a child.
Five-year-old Ryan attends the Children’s Learning Adventure Kinder, where he enjoys culinary class,
(cooking), and gym. Next year, he will be a kindergartener, and will be joining his brother, Kyle, at
Rennell,. “He just loves playing with his toys, Grossery Games and Mashens! The only things that he will
eat are Chicken Nuggets and macaroni and cheese,” divulges his mom. “I even have boxed mac and
cheese auto-shipped from Amazon,” giggles Randi.
Some of their happiest memories as a family include excursions on their boat in Towne Lake, and taking
their golf cart out in the community. They also enjoy spending time with lots of friends and neighbors.
The Koopermans look forward to their vacation time. “We keep snowmobiles in Idaho. Santa even
brought the boys snowmobiles for Christmas,” comments Randi. “With David’s side of the family, we
love to go to Island Park, Idaho, and snowmobile into West Yellowstone, Montana, and ride into
Wyoming.”
“My mom and I take the kids to steamboat Colorado, three times a year, while David and my dad stay
behind and work. We have season ski passes to Steamboat Springs, Colorado.” Her son Kyle looks
forward to their family trips. “I like it when my family gets to go snowmobiling and snowboarding. I’m on
level 6 out of 8 in showboarding,” he says proudly. “Ryan’s our skier!” adds the boys’ mother.
As a family, the Koopermans enjoy rooting for their team at the Astros Baseball games, and they are
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo season ticket holders. “Kyle has even participated in the mutton
bustin’ competition,” relates Randi.

Randi, a diehard Mizzou Tiger, values her time spent as a volunteer. She is a home room mom, and
works in the Copy Room at Rennell, whenever needed. Recently, Randi was in the Copy Room by herself,
when a lockdown drill was held, and the lights were extinguished. “Not knowing what was going on, I
started calling out, asking what I was supposed to do. I later discovered that you are supposed to lock
yourself in, stay down, and stay quiet!”
“I am a volunteer with a nonprofit organization called Dec My Room. We decorate the cold, stark white
hospital rooms of long term pediatric cancer patients, ages 18 months to 20 years old, in the Medical
Center. Our job is to first get a list of the patient’s likes and interests, then shop for those things and
decorate the patient’s room. While it is humbling and heart wrenching to see the patients, it is also
heartwarming to see their reaction to their newly decorated space. The patients get to take everything
home with them. We also bring pillows and blankets for out of town family members. I heard about Dec
My Room from some other women who volunteer for them in Towne Lake, and have been doing this for
3-4 years.”
David enjoys all of his collection of rides, especially his boat and two motorcycles, a Honda Goldwing and
an American Iron Horse Chopper. He can be seen astride one of the motorcycles, as he rides in the
annual San Jacinto High Rollers Toy Run for Boys and Girls Country.
