Spring has finally arrived, and Cypress Creek Lakes Garden Club President, Ellen Jones, and the garden
club members are eager to pull on their garden gloves and grab their hand tools, rakes and shovels.
Founded in 2007, the club’s mission is to “create and care for a responsible environment and cultivate
new ideas and friendships.”
“Cypress Creek Lakes Garden Club meetings are held from 7 – 9 p.m., the second Monday of every
month, September through May, at the CCL Clubhouse, 10701 Cypress Creek Bend. The meetings are
open to the public,” explains Ellen. “We always have an informative guest speaker that presents a topic
of interest to our gardeners. Our April garden club guest speaker is Master Gardener, Louise Rugaard.
The topic is ‘Hits and Misses in Cypress Creek Lakes …Creating a landscape using plants best suited for
our area.’”
The CCL gardeners are especially proud of their collaborative effort to beautify the community. The
butterfly garden, at the park at Sunny Springs Lane and Cypress Creek Lakes Drive, is a perfect example
of the group’s work. “We are in the planning process and hope to begin breaking ground on our second
butterfly garden in the next few months,” says Ellen. “It will be located at the park at Brazos Sage Drive.”
The CCL Garden Club is responsible for selecting Yard of the Month; only residents of CCL are eligible to
receive this honor.
“Our Junior Gardening event is coming up at the CCL Clubhouse on Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m. – 2
p.m. Toddlers to teenagers are welcome to come and paint a pot, plant a pot, as a little ‘take away’ for
Mother’s Day. We’ll even have a fire truck on site! Cost of the event is just $5, and is open to Cypress
Creek residents, only.” To register in advance, email ehawkins12@yahoo.com.
