My hands down favorite is the Quail and Hatch Chili Grits appetizer, but this is a place that most consistently serves good food. Frio Grill offers a traditional Sunday menu of omelets, eggs, waffles, enormous biscuits and gravy. But it is the chef’s Hill Country touch that make this brunch memorable. Texas smoked sausage with hatch chilies and cheese, migas, (fried corn tortillas, scrambled eggs, fire roasted salsa and cheese), and Texas BBQ Shrimp and Grits, grilled with the house sweet fire BBQ sauce are worth the wait.
The Rockport Fish Tacos, grilled mahi mahi with honey chipotle lime slaw and a homemade mango habanero sauce, served with cilantro lime rice and black beans, is a popular menu item. Have a big appetite? Try the half-pound Guadalupe Pass Burger, with fire roasted chilies, peppered bacon, sharp cheddar cheese, onion straws, fried egg and “a sweet and smoky whiskey glaze,” Cyndy Henny Gusler suggests the green chili cheese grits as a side dish.
