I FOUND one! What a way to start off an article, right? But it is true. I love discovering locals to the area, and Big Daddy’s Sweet Shop is a gem in the heart of Fairfield, in Cypress, Texas. Just as the name implies, owner and home baker Brandon Williams is Big Daddy; his story is inspiring.

Brandon was bitten by the baking bug at a fairly young age when he would bake alongside his Grandma in her kitchen. From grinding pecans to measuring ingredients under her encouraging direction, Brandon looked forward to spending time assisting a woman he admired and loved. The memories are a heartfelt connection for Brandon. For him, nothing is more comforting than a house filled with the aroma of baked goods in the oven. “It is nostalgic,” he says.

Taking his roots forward in life was important for this baker.
“I was always that person to bring baked goods to parties, pot luck dinners or to the office. Before long, people simply started assigning me to bring cakes or dessert, and it kind of just became my thing,” he recalls.

It wasn’t until those same folks in Brandon’s life offered to pay him to do their holiday baking, to make a special events cake for an office birthday or even a BOOZY cake for that adult occasion that Big Daddy’s Sweet Shop was born.
With his Food Handler’s Certificate and permit in hand and Shanaeya, his wife of four years by his side, they created a menu and launched to their familiar circle of family and friends. Business has steadily increased by word of mouth and good old- fashioned hard work. With the added boost of social media, Facebook brought positive exposure for “Big Daddy.”

Brandon feels he is a good, yet basic self-taught baker. He claims, “My cakes might not have the visual appeal of a piped seasoned decorator, but none better will you eat in quality.”
I agree with Brandon.

Moist. Airy. Flavorful. I felt like a kid all over again as we sat around his dining room table, chatting over a nice big slice of Cookies and Cream Cake (one of Brandon’s best sellers). His face was a nod of contentment as he sought my first bite impression. It’s a darn good cake y’all, and all I could think about was how much my family would enjoy the indulgence. This cake is meant to be shared and is affordable at $25.00 a cake.
The “Sweet Shop” is not just an idle title; Shanaeya makes incredible accompanying sweet treats such as Peppermint Bark, Peanut Butter Balls, Chocolate covered Oreos, and Chocolate dipped Pretzels, in just about every flavor and depending on your themed occasion, every color of the rainbow.

Check them out and help support a local. Their menu can be found online at Big Daddy’s Sweet Shop via their FACEBOOK page or http://bigdaddyssweetshop.com/.
