Cory Yates is one of the newest Cypress entrepreneurs to make foodies sit up and take notice. The 30-
year-old Maryland transplant prepares bagels made to order out of his home, seven days a week. The
idea to start his Jersey Bagels Yates was nine months in the making. Since opening his business three
months ago, this young baker has barely been able to catch his breath.
“I’m up at 3:30 or 4:00 a.m., and before I’m done prepping, I pretty much work a 16-hour day. We
usually make about 10 – 11 dozen, but I think that on our biggest day, we made around 140 bagels.
That’s about all that I can fit in the refrigerators,” he comments. Regular bagels are $8 for a half dozen,
and $14 per dozen.
According to his Facebook page, “The formula is quite simple; a creative and driven young man with a
passion for cooking, (Cory), met a beautiful and smart Jersey girl with great ideas, (Jaclyn), and Jersey
Bagels was born!”
“I just make a good piece of bread and I’m comfortable with that! We strive to do three things: to have a
good quality bagel, to give good service, and to show creativity,” shares Yates. As a result, the baker says
that while his blueberry bagels are the most popular, everyone seems to have their own particular
favorites. His whimsical rainbow creations and the monster sized bagels are sure to raise a few
eyebrows. “I just wanted to try something different,” he admits. His customers attest to his baking
prowess. Sara Doyle asserts that “…there’s no better bagel than Jersey Bagels Yates.” Christy
McClanahan is quick to concur, proclaiming his products are “the best bagels ever!”
Yates is quick to acknowledge his wife, Jackie, mom, dad and seven-year-old son, Adrian, for being
instrumental in the success of his business, and for their constant support. I want to provide for my
family, and for those that don’t have as much,” he confides earnestly.
Customers are requested to call before coming to the Jersey Bagels Yates kitchen. Pickup times are from
6:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
