New State-of-the-Art Facility to Spur Cypress Economic Growth

Most NFL teams now have separate, high-end training complexes. The Texans however have been one of the few that still operate from their stadium. All that changed with a stunning announcement by owners Cal and Hannah McNair announcing a new facility set to open in 2029 called the Toro District.
The new Cypress development will be located at Bridgeland Creek Parkway and Peek Road, just off Grand Parkway/99
The Houston Texans’ plans for “Toro District” includes an 83-acre mixed-use development housing the team’s new training facility and headquarters in the Bridgeland community of Cypress, just off the Grand Parkway at 10900 Peek Road.
The team’s anticipated move-in date is 2029. Approximately one fourth of the facility will be dedicated to the team’s headquarters and training complex, while the rest is a planned complex of retail, hotels, commercial space, entertainment venues, restaurants, and medical offices. The facility will become part of the Bridgeland Central, developed by Howard Hughes Communities, which spans over 900 acres.
“We wanted something world-class to match where we are headed,” said Hannah McNair, Vice President of the Houston Texans Foundation. “This will be an industry tone setter for global sports and entertainment.”
Cal McNair, Houston Texans Chair and CEO, said it proved a long-term commitment to Harris County.
The Texans are not moving the team or stadium to Cypres at least for now. They’ll still play games at NRG Stadium in Houston.
Here’s why they’re moving their practice headquarters to the Bridgeland/Cypress area:
They currently share space at NRG Stadium
Currently, the Texans’ offices, meeting rooms, and training areas are inside or next to NRG Stadium, which is owned by Harris County. This can create scheduling conflicts because the stadium also hosts the rodeo, concerts, and other events. Cal McNair said moving to the new location would allow the team to “focus the organization” without distractions.
They also want a modern, state-of-the-art NFL facility
And the new Cypress facility will include:

  • An Indoor practice field
  • Multiple outdoor NFL-size fields
  • Offices, weight rooms, and meeting space
  • Entertainment and community areas

The plan is for this to assist in player development, recruitment of free agents, and improve overall competitiveness.
The move will spur Cypress’ economic growth and long-term investment as local officials expect the project to create jobs and have a major economic impact in northwest Harris County, with thousands of jobs and infrastructure improvements planned. It also keeps the Texans in Harris County in the long term. Also, according to officials,
the move helps secure the team’s future locally while they negotiate stadium renovations at NRG (their lease runs through 2032).
